Early life

Shahzoda is the stage name of Zilola Bakhodirovna Musaeva. She was born on 28 July 1979 in Fergana. Her father, Bakhodir Musaev, is a Doctor of Philosophy; her mother, Mirikhta Musaeva, teaches Russian language and literature. According to the old official site shahzoda.uz, Zilola spent her early childhood in Moscow and the family returned to Uzbekistan when she was nine.

She loved music from childhood. After school she enrolled in the management faculty of the Kyiv International State University, but chose the stage instead: she began singing professionally in the duo “Jonim” (“Soul”) and has been performing since 1998.

Career

In 2001 Zilola took the stage name Shahzoda and started her solo career, working with Tarona Records. Her first solo concert took place in 2003, after which her concert programmes became an annual tradition; she has toured almost every CIS and Caucasus country.

In 2009 she released “Между небом и землёй” with DJ Smash: it climbed to No. 8 on the Muz-TV chart and won several awards. Later came “All Alone” with the band Akcent, tracks with French DJ Sean Bay (“Flying Tonight”, “Hands in the Air”) and “Мой золотой”, produced by Dr. Costi.

Composer Eldar Yuldashev wrote her hit “Toʻrt qadam” and the album “Sevgi bor”. In 2016 she released “Linda” with the group TWO, and since 2017 Shahzoda has worked with the Russian publisher Media SDV — the first single was “Люли, люли”. She sings in Uzbek and Russian, in pop and pop-folk.

Family

Shahzoda grew up in a family of scholars and teachers: her father is a philosopher and her mother a teacher of Russian literature. She shares little about her private life — for her fans, the songs come first.
